Hello Parents and Youth Leaders,
As we are finalizing the plans for this year’s Stake Trek we wanted to provide you with some key dates and requirements.
If you haven't done so already, please print and fill out the Trek Release Form and mail it to us personally at: 818 Commercial St STE 300, Astoria OR, 97103
Or you can scan it and email it to us at: rainiertrek@gmail.com
You will not be allowed on the bus unless you have this form filled out!!!!!
Bucket Drop off:
All youth must pack their gear in a 5 gallon plastic bucket and their
sleeping gear in a heavy duty black trash bag. Both must be labeled
(duct tape preferred) with the youth’s full name and Ward.Packing list is located to the left here. ------>
• East Side youth will be dropping off their gear to the Rainer Building on Saturday July 9th from 12pm-2pm.
• West Side youth will be dropping off their gear to the Astoria Building on Saturday July 9th from 10am-12pm.
• Your ward YM/YW leaders may choose to make other arrangements so
please contact them if you have any questions regarding drop off.
Any late or missing gear will be the sole responsibility of the youth
to bring with them the morning of departure. But as this will cause
delays to our departure we ask that you please bring your stuff to the
drop times on Saturday.
Leave for Trek:
All youth and Ma’s
and Pa’s must be at the Rainier building Wednesday July 13th at 6:00am.
Youth will be assigned to a Trek family and will load their gear onto
the waiting buses.
Youth who are late and miss the bus will need to
find alternative means to arriving at trek. Which probably means
driving yourself a long way.... not an ideal choice...please be on
time!
Please come dressed in your pioneer clothing and have a sack
lunch and drink prepared for the 5 hour bus ride. Also, if you have any
medications please bring those to give to the medical staff at that
time.
Return from Trek:
We expect to return from Trek on
Saturday July 17th at approximately 3:00pm to the Rainer building. We
anticipate being able to notify local parents and youth leaders if there
is a change to the ETA while on the bus ride home. Please make
arrangements for your youth to be picked up there.
Stake Post-Trek Fireside:
We plan to have a post-Trek fireside but the date is still to be
determined. There, we will have the first look at video compilations and
photography of the trek as well as share testimonies and you stories
with other youth and leaders. A light dessert will be provided. Sunday
dress please.
Last minute changes:
After our recent site visit and leadership meetings we would like you to note a few minor changes:
• Shoes with open mesh tops (most running or athletic shoes) are highly
discouraged, on-site missionaries report that these shoes clog with
sand and cause chafing and blisters). Try to get lightweight leather
hiking shoes that won’t allow sand in. However athletic shoes are fine
for the “water” pair of shoes.
• If you wish, you are encouraged to
bring a personal supply of powdered, electrolyte-containing drink mix
packets. Gatorade and other types of packets are ideal. Expect to drink
about 32oz of water every hour or two depending on the heat levels. We
are asking this with the hope that if you bring your own favorites, you
are more likely to drink fluid on the trail and thereby avoid
dehydration. Please place the packets in a plastic baggie labeled with
your name.
Thank you for all your help and support as we strive to make a positive experience for your youth,
-The Trek Leadership
